AMD Ryzen 9000: Check the Workstation Menu
If you’ve read the recent BOXX blog on the new AMD Ryzen™ 9000 Series processor or perused our website, you’re likely well versed on what makes this such an exceptional CPU and why AMD refers to it as the “world’s most powerful desktop processor” or the “next-gen high performance CPU core.” The AMD Ryzen 9000, featuring “Zen 5” technology with a 16% uplift over the previous “Zen 4”, is stable, reliable, power efficient, highly configurable, and extremely versatile—just like BOXX. So much so, in fact, that you can take advantage of the power and performance of this next-gen processor in a BOXX A-class workstation form factor ideally suited to your particular workflow.
To clarify, BOXX offers different product lines designated by the processors that power them. For example, S-class refers to Intel® Core™, T-class refers to AMD Ryzen™ Threadripper, W-class refers to Intel® Xeon® W, P-class to AMD EPYC™, and A-class to AMD Ryzen.
With that understanding, also note that in terms of system components, the four workstations in our discussion all feature the same AMD Ryzen 9000 Series processor (up to 16 cores/32 threads) up to two AMD Radeon Pro™ or NVIDIA® RTX™ GPUs, closed loop liquid cooling, 192GB 5600MHz DDR5 system memory, best-in-class connectivity like PCIe® Gen 5.0, 2.5GB Ethernet, and USB 4.0, Crucial® T705 PCIe® 5.0 NVMe SSDs for maximum graphics and storage throughput.
Also note that each system is purpose-built for SOLIDWORKS (including Simulation and Visualization), Ansys applications (Workbench, Discovery), Revit, AutoCAD, Civil 3D, 3ds Max, Maya, Cinema 4D, Adobe Creative Cloud, V-Ray, and other pro applications.
So…with that in mind, how would you like your AMD Ryzen 9000? Let’s check the menu.
APEXX A3 is a cool, quiet subcompact tower that accelerates demanding 3D content creation at your desk side. It’s powerful, stable, and rock-solid reliable. A3 boasts a 750-watt power supply, but generates less heat and consumes less energy, so that means less wear on those premium system components listed above. A good many content creators’ workflows include single-threaded applications (SOLIDWORKS, Revit, 3ds Max, etc.) which are optimized by the high frequency that Ryzen 9000 provides at up to 5.7GHz. But because what is created must be rendered (or may require simulation and/or visualization), the Ryzen 9000 CPU cores enable it to excel at these multi-threaded tasks as well. You want to upgrade from your lackluster PC into the power workstation space? A3 is your ticket.
APEXX A4 is a tower which can also be easily rack mounted, so it’s at home at your deskside, server room, or mobile rack. It has the same features and benefits as the APEXX A3, but with its more spacious form factor, A4 is capable of supporting the large-scale, top-of-the-line NVIDIA GeForce GPUs ideal for applications supported by NVIDIA Studio Drivers. This includes many of the previously named applications, as well as DaVinci Resolve, Rhino, Arnold, Blender, Unreal Engine, OctaneRender, Redshift, KeyShot, Lumion, Twinmotion, Pixar Renderman, and more. Due to the size of these GeForce GPUs, they require significant power and cooling, and APEXX A4 more than fits the bill with a 1200-watt power supply and the aforementioned liquid cooling.
RAXX A1G is the superior alternative to VDI. Once again, it offers the same AMD Ryzen 9000 Series processors and premium components as the A-class desk side workstations, yet in a 1U series chassis with a 1300 watt redundant power supply. RAXX S1G accelerates 3D content creation team workflows from the data center with remote workstation technology. If that is your organization’s need, have you tried VDI only to find it severely lacking in performance so your power users can't get their jobs done? If so, I don’t need to tell you the result is a substantial decline in productivity. RAXX A1G is the solution. It also provides data sovereignty and an additional layer of security, must-haves in today’s vigilant cyber security environment.
FLEXX A1G is a revolutionary platform that brings high-end, liquid-cooled workstations into the data center at very high density. How high a density? FLEXX system enclosures are 5 rack units in size and house up to 10 FLEXX A1G modules, so that equals only a ½ U per system! FLEXX is optimized for the data center and supports system management through IPMI and A/B redundant or N+1 power. Like RAXX, FLEXX A1G provides the ability to keep your workstations and data secure in the data center to meet your security and data sovereignty needs.
Now that you know what’s on the menu for an AMD Ryzen 9000-based workstation, I’ll close by reminding you that each BOXX A-class workstation is designed, built, and supported in the USA.
